Allianz Commercial Announces Key Leadership Change
In a strategic move, Allianz Commercial has appointed Lara Martiner as the new Global Head of Alternative Risk Transfer at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS), effective April 1, 2025. Martiner will succeed Grant Maxwell, who is set to depart the company at the end of June. In the interim, Martiner will continue serving as the CEO of AGCS’s subsidiary, Allianz Risk Transfer AG.
The Alternative Risk Transfer unit is recognized as a pivotal growth sector for Allianz Commercial. This is in light of the rising demand from clients seeking to enhance their traditional risk transfer programs with innovative, non-traditional solutions. In 2024, the unit achieved a substantial milestone by underwriting over €2 billion in gross written premium, inclusive of fronting premiums.
Amidst the increasing demand for innovative risk solutions—such as structured insurance, captive fronting, parametric solutions, and sustainable risk options—Allianz Commercial continues to prioritize the expansion of its Alternative Risk Transfer services.
With a tenure spanning over 14 years at Allianz, Martiner embarked on her journey in 2011 as Legal Counsel, Head of Compliance, and location head in Zurich. Over the years, she has advanced through diverse senior roles within AGCS and the Alternative Risk Transfer division. Notably, she joined the executive board of Allianz Risk Transfer AG in October 2021 and assumed the role of Chief Executive and General Counsel a year ago.
Commenting on Martiner’s appointment, Vanessa Maxwell, Chief Underwriting Officer at Allianz Commercial, remarked, “Congratulations to Lara on her appointment to this pivotal role in our organization. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with her. Alternative Risk Transfer represents a key growth area for us, and I am confident that she will enhance our capabilities and expertise for the broader benefit of our business. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Grant for his capable and effective leadership over the past five years and his nearly 17 years of service with the Allianz Group.”
