Chris Jones Takes the Helm at IUA

The International Underwriting Association (IUA) has announced the appointment of Chris Jones as its new chief executive, effective from 1 May 2025. This transition comes as the current chief executive, Dave Matcham, plans to retire after a distinguished 45-year career in the London Market, including two decades with the IUA.

Chris Jones, who is presently the IUA’s director of legal, underwriting, and claims, will bring extensive expertise to his new position. He has a wealth of experience, having managed over 40 London Market committees and collaborated closely with member companies on regulatory and legislative issues.

Upon his appointment, Jones expressed: “I am immensely proud to be taking over the leadership of the IUA at such a significant period in our history. Our membership is at an all-time high, and with our skilled and respected secretariat team, we are poised for a strong future.”

The IUA, which represents 79 companies operating within the London insurance market, reported a total premium income of £48.432 billion in 2023.

Claire McDonald, chair of the IUA and CEO of Scor Business Solutions, remarked: “On behalf of the board and the members represented by the IUA, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dave for his many years of outstanding service to the London Market and for his dedication during this transitional period.”

Commenting further on the appointment of Jones, she added: “Chris is well-acquainted with all members of the IUA board, and we are thrilled to appoint someone from within the organization. His current activities have delivered tangible value to our members, and we are eager to support him in his new capacity.”
